What Illinois coach Lovie Smith said after 28-6 loss to Nebraska

Illinois played in front of its home crowd Friday night against a Nebraska program undergoing changes within its athletic department, but that didn’t stop the Cornhuskers from getting the best of the Fighting Illini.

At 2-1 overall going into the game, the Fighting Illini needed a victory to stay above .500, but instead, trailed 21-3 by halftime and eventually lost, 28-6.

Quarterback Chayce Crouch ran the ball 18 times for 37 yards while completing 9 of his 15 passes for 99 yards. The Fighting Illini are now 0-1 in Big Ten play and will travel to face Iowa at 12 p.m. ET on Oct. 7.
