Michigan State topped Iowa, 17-10, in a close contest on Saturday to give the Spartans their first Big Ten win of 2017 in their first conference game.
Here’s what Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio said after the game:
“A big one is we don’t give up any turnovers. They get two. Obviously that’s big in any football game. You see that.”
“Just another white-knuckle game. What you love keeps you going.”
On the close score:
“Every game has been tight. Every game has been pretty much low-scoring games. … That happened again tonight. We come to expect that, and that’s why I said we needed it.”
On playing Michigan next week:
“We’ll wait on that for tomorrow. Our guys will enjoy tonight and be ready to go on Monday.”
“Our guys are going to continue to get better and better. We have a young football team. … We’ve got to put it all together as we continue on.”
On his emotions during the game:
“I wasn’t smiling too often out there. It was pretty intense. It’s a big win, and it’s in Spartan Stadium. And it’s a gut win.”
On true freshman safety Tre Person, whose redshirt was burned:
“He’s done a great job in practice. If you practice well, you play well. … That front-side safety, you need to be able to cover, and he can cover well.”
