Nebraska improved to 3-2 on the season (and 2-2 in the Big Ten) Friday with a 28-6 win over Illinois. After a rough start to the season, quarterback Tanner Lee enjoyed his best game of the season, completing 17 of 24 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns.
The Cornhuskers’ defense also clamped down on the Illini, holding their opponents to only 199 total yards of offense.
Here is what Cornhuskers coach Mike Riley had to say about the win.
Quotes from Mike Riley’s press conference
On Nebraska’s performance Friday:
“That was our most complete game of the year.”
On the state of the team:
“I like where we are right now, actually. We’ve won two Big Ten games. We won one on the road, we won one on a short week. We gained a day to give our kids an extra day off. I think that will be good for them, and then we’ll get ready to play Wisconsin.”
On upcoming opponent Wisconsin:
“Their running game is great, and their quarterback is one of the highest-efficiency guys in America.”
What quarterback Tanner Lee said
On his performance:
“I had a great feel for what coach [Danny] Langsdorf was calling and what he was expecting of me and doing what he asked, and I was able to complete balls and run the plays that were meant to be run.”
On the feeling of taking a knee to end the win:
“That’s the best feeling, to call ‘victory’ in the huddle and know that you’ve won the game. Just relax a little and enjoy winning.”
