What Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald said after 33-24 loss to Wisconsin

Following a week off, Northwestern hit the road to face No. 10 Wisconsin on Saturday and came away with a 33-24 loss. The Big Ten opening defeat to the Badgers drops the Wildcats’ record to 2-2 overall.

At halftime, Northwestern held a 10-7 lead, but a 14-0 advantage for Wisconsin in the third quarter helped lead the favored Badgers to a victory. The running game never got going for the Wildcats, as Justin Jackson totaled just 25 yards on nine carries.

Quarterback Clayton Thorson completed 29 of 45 passes for 219 yards while throwing three touchdowns and two interceptions. Next up for Northwestern is a 12 p.m. ET game against No. 4 Penn State on Oct. 7 at Ryan Field.
