The Gators hosted the nation’s No. 1 recruit, Kayvon Thibodeaux, for a two-day visit over the weekend.

The 5-star defensive end from Oaks Christian High School (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) was impressed with Florida coach Dan Mullen and his staff, specifically strength coach Nick Savage and his offseason program.

Thibodeaux told SEC Country he can see himself spending his college years at Florida and will make a return trip, most likely for a game. So when could the Gators get Thibodeaux back on campus?

If he follows through with his initial plans to officially visit Florida during the season, Thibodeaux will most likely make it back to Gainesville on Oct. 6. That’s when the Gators host SEC rival LSU, which will be the biggest home game of the 2018 season.

Recruits already are circling that matchup on their calendars and it should be a big weekend for Florida. It’s unknown how Mullen wants to handle official visits in the fall, but Thibodeaux certainly will get the green light whenever he wants to come.

The previous coaching staff tried to only offer fall official visits to mid-year enrollees and/or out-of-state recruits. Chris Steele, a 5-star cornerback from Bellflower, Calif., has set his official visit to Florida for Sept. 8 for the Kentucky game.

Thibodeaux was scheduled visit Florida State last weekend but did not make it to Tallahassee. He now plans to check out FSU in April.

Perhaps Florida can convince Thibodeaux to drive down to Gainesville while he’s in the Sunshine State next month. If he’s able and willing to take another unofficial visit to Florida before the fall, Friday Night Lights could be another possibility for Thibodeaux.
