Wisconsin-Nebraska to battle for first place, TE Troy Fumagalli questionable, former teammates swap NFL jerseys

First place on line in the Big Ten West

There is still plenty of season left, but Wisconsin’s matchup with Nebraska on Saturday will give the winner the inside track to claiming the Big Ten West title and going to the conference championship game. Jesse Temple has more on what’s at stake in Lincoln.

Injury update on Troy Fumagalli

The Badgers were without All-Big Ten tight end Troy Fumagalli against Northwestern, and while the leg injury that kept him out is improving it’s unclear if he will be available against Nebraska, according to coach Paul Chryst.

Wisconsin hauls in the awards

Wisconsin’s defense put on a show against Northwestern last Saturday, racking up 8 sacks, 2 interceptions and a touchdown. That led to some awards coming their way on Monday, with safety Natrell Jamerson earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, safety D’Cota Dixon being named the Walter Camp Football Defensive Player of the Week and outside linebacker Garret Dooley being tabbed by the Senior Bowl as its Senior of the Week.

Tyler Herro recruiting

He hasn’t even signed his national letter of intent yet, but 4-star shooting guard Tyler Herro is putting in work to bring more big-time players to Wisconsin’s campus. Herro, the Badgers lone commitment in the Class of 2018, took his official visit last weekend, doing so at the same time that prized 2020 small forward Jalen Johnson was there on an unofficial visit. Herro used social media on Sunday and Monday to make it clear to Johnson how much he woud like him as a future teammate.

Why Donte Burton committed

Cornerback Donte Burton became the 19th commitment in the Class of 2018 for Wisconsin, giving his verbal pledge last weekend. He said it was a decision made easy after loving every minute of his official visit, writes Jesse Temple.

Purdue game time set

Wisconsin announced its game on Oct. 14 against Purdue will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET and be televised on the Big Ten Network.

Nebraska calls for a blackout

Few environments will be more charged than the one Wisconsin will face Saturday night at Memorial Stadium, a place that has seen Nebraska win 20 straight night games. To add to it, the student section has declared the game a blackout, calling for all Huskers fans to wear black. The tweet making the declaration was accompanied by the hashtag #BlackoutWisconsin.

Wisconsin hockey moves up

The Wisconsin women’s hockey team is ranked No. 1 in the country after its 4-0 start, while the men’s team moved up one spot to No. 10 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine after the Badgers got a season-opening win against Michigan Tech on Sunday.

Corey Clement gets his Melvin Gordon jersey

Corey Clement and Melvin Gordon shared a backfield at Wisconsin for two seasons and on Sunday met as pros for the first time as Clement’s Philadelphia Eagles beat Gordon’s San Diego Chargers. Afterwards the duo exchanged jerseys, with Clement taking to social media to show his off.
