Wisconsin remains No. 4 in Land of 10 Power Poll

Wisconsin found its offense at the right time to defeat visiting Northwestern 33-24 on Saturday. As a result, the Badgers stayed at No. 4 in the latest Land of 10 Big Ten Power Poll.

In the poll, voted on by 13 Land of 10 writers and released Sunday, Wisconsin trailed Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan atop the conference. The Nittany Lions received all 13 first-place votes. The Badgers have remained in fourth since the initial poll was released four weeks ago.

In my vote, I kept Wisconsin at No. 3, as I have all season. Penn State stayed at No. 1 after drubbing Indiana 45-14. Michigan held steady at No. 2 on its bye week. I continue to place Michigan second because of its strong nonconference victory against Florida. And while Ohio State has looked impressive the past three games in blowout victories against Army, UNLV and Rutgers, I’m keeping the Buckeyes behind Wisconsin because of their home loss to Oklahoma in Week 2.

Michigan State made the biggest jump in my vote from No. 10 to No. 5 on the strength of its 17-10 victory against Iowa. The Spartans are 3-1 and have matched their win total from last season. Four teams ranked ahead of Michigan State last week all lost — Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana and Northwestern — while Purdue had a bye week.

Only two Big Ten West teams have not lost a conference game: Nebraska and Wisconsin. That makes the game between those teams on Saturday in Lincoln even more important. The winner will be in the early driver’s seat for a division title. That’s wild considering how bad the situation in Nebraska seemed two weeks ago following a loss to Northern Illinois. It’s all part of the craziness that is college football.

My vote:

  1. Penn State
  2. Michigan
  3. Wisconsin
  4. Ohio State
  5. Michigan State
  6. Iowa
  7. Maryland
  8. Minnesota
  9. Northwestern
  10. Nebraska
  11. Purdue
  12. Indiana
  13. Illinois
  14. Rutgers

Land of 10 vote:

  1. Penn State: 169 (13 first-place votes)
  2. Ohio State: 149
  3. Michigan: 145
  4. Wisconsin: 134
  5. Maryland: 107
  6. Michigan State: 101
  7. Minnesota: 81
  8. Iowa: 79
  9. Indiana: 57
  10. Purdue: 54
  11. Northwestern: 50
  12. Nebraska: 35
  13. Illinois: 22
  14. Rutgers: 0
