MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin tight end Troy Fumagalli will miss the game Saturday against Northwestern with a left leg injury, according to school officials.
Fumagalli’s injury is a significant blow to Wisconsin as it opens Big Ten play. He leads the Badgers in receptions (15) and receiving yards (236) and is tied for the team lead with 3 touchdown catches. Fumagalli also had become quarterback Alex Hornibrook’s favorite third-down target early this season. Fumagalli was not listed on either of Wisconsin’s two injury reports during the week.
In his career, Fumagalli has played in 42 games with 23 starts and owns 104 catches for 1,316 yards and 6 touchdowns. He was named as a preseason first-team All-American by Athlon, ESPN and Sports Illustrated.
Tight ends Kyle Penniston and Zander Neuville could have a big opportunity in Fumagalli’s place. Penniston has 2 catches for 14 yards this season. Neuville has 3 catches for 33 yards with 1 touchdown.
