The opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament appears to have had an effect on the freshman’s draft stock as well. Yahoo! Sports writer Jordan Schultz thinks that Smith is trending upwards in the eyes of NBA executives.
Smith is averaging 11.9 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, and 1.9 assists per game. Against the Florida Gators, Smith was especially potent, nailing two out of his three 3-point shots and scoring 18 points on the night.
Next up for the Red Raiders are the Purdue Boilermakers, the 2 seed in the East region. The Boilermakers will be without starting center Isaac Haas, which plays to Texas Tech’s favor.
The Red Raiders’ Sweet Sixteen berth is the first one for their program since 2005. The last time Texas Tech was in the Sweet Sixteen, they fell to the West Virginia Mountaineers, 65-60.
