Zach Smith earns Baylor’s last single-digit jersey number

Baylor Bears quarterback Zach Smith started this season as No. 11, but he’ll be sporting a new number now.

Smith has been awarded jersey No. 8. That’s the last single-digit number free on the Baylor roster.

Single digits hold a position of high importance in Matt Rhule’s culture at Baylor. Players wearing single digits earn those numbers through showing toughness and leadership. All players are eligible to wear single digits.

Smith, a sophomore, took over the starting job midway through the season. He’s thrown for 742 yards and 7 touchdowns thus far.

Here’s the list of all single-digit players on the Baylor roster.

1 – Taylor Young, LB

2 – Taion Sells, S

3 – Chris Miller, S

4 – Grayland Arnold, CB

5 – Brian Nance, DE

6 – Trevor White, WR

7 – John Lovett, RB

8 – Zach Smith, QB

9 – Ira Lewis, DT
