The ranking marks the 12th straight week the Flyers have appeared in the poll and is the team's highest ranking this season. The ranking is the highest for the program since the Flyers reached No. 2 in 1956, the Dayton Daily News' David Jablonski reported.

Dayton’s jump in the polls from No. 6 comes after two wins last week, which extended their winning streak to 14 games. The Flyers defeated the second-place team in the Atlantic 10, Rhode Island, last Tuesday at UD Arena 81-67.

The Flyers also beat UMass in Amherst Saturday 71-63.

Also helping the Flyers’ climb in the rankings was two losses to unranked teams by Louisville, who was ranked 5th in last week’s poll.

Dayton ranks behind No. 1 Baylor, No. 2 Gonzaga, No. 3 Kansas, and No. 4 San Diego State.

This week Dayton has two conference battles: At VCU in Richmond Tuesday and back at UD Arena Saturday against Duquesne.
