Dayton ended a seven-match losing streak in the series, which Ohio State leads 14-10. Before this match, Dayton had not beaten Ohio State since 1980 and had twice lost in the NCAA tournament to the Buckeyes in recent years (2004 and 2010). Last year, Ohio State beat Dayton 3-0.

Brooke Westbeld finished the match against Ohio State with 30 assists and 15 digs. Lauren Bruns had 22 kills. Westbeld, Bruns and Kendyll Brown made the all-tournament team.

Dayton (9-4) beat Tennessee 3-2 on Friday and Evansville 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Coach Tim Horsmon, who said earlier in the week he hoped to set an attendance record Saturday, thanked the Red Scare student group for filling the stands for the match against Ohio State. The first 1,000 fans received White Out T-shirts Saturday.

“You guys were great on the end line this weekend,” Horsmon wrote on Twitter. “Thanks for coming out and making it a great environment. See you all again in a couple of weeks!
