Famed NASCAR team owner Richard Childress shoots at home invaders

Richard Childress, the famed NASCAR owner who was team owner for the late Dale Earnhardt during his career, was the victim of a home invasion at his home in Davidson County, North Carolina on Sunday.

Three intruders tried entering Childress’ home through the front door. He responded by firing shots at intruders, which shattered glass and set off the home’s burglar alarm, according to WSOC-TV in Charlotte.

No one was hurt in the incident. Childress is offering a $10,000 award for information.

According to CBSNews.com, Davidson County Sheriff David Grice said the state’s “Castle Doctrine” law gives residents the right to defend themselves against home invasions.

Grice said he talked to Childress after the incident, and paraphrased the racing legend saying, “the only reason he and his wife were here today was because of God and the Second Amendment.”
