H.S. football: Marion Local back in state title game

Nate Moeller ran for three touchdowns to help Marion Local advance to a sixth consecutive state championship game with a 36-7 win over Hamler Patrick Henry on Friday at Lima Spartan Stadium.

Jack Homan started the scoring for the Flyers with a 4-yard touchdown run and Duane Leugers connected with Sam Huelsman on the 2-point conversion.

Moeller scored from 20 yards out for his first touchdown with 1:51 to play in the half to give ML a 15-0 lead at the break.

Leugers extended the lead to 22-0 early in the third quarter with a 31-yard TD run.

Patrick Henry got on the board with an 8-yard scoring run from Mitchell Bonner, but Marion Local answered quickly with a 12-yard TD run from Moeller and led 29-7 entering the final quarter.

With 6:16 to play Moeller ran in his third touchdown from five yards out to cap the scoring.

Marion Local (13-1) will face Cuyahoga Heights (14-0) on Friday at 10 a.m. at Ohio Stadium in Columbus for the Division VI state championship.
