Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett is extremely close with Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells.
They know each other through Brissett’s high school football coach, and Parcells could not stop raving about the young quarterback to NBC Sports’ Michele Tafoya.
“[Brissett] is respectful, smart, has no bad habits,” Parcells said to Tafoya. “I don’t want to sound like I’m saying the kid is perfect, but he’s pretty close. He’s like my own kid.”
That is high praise from a coach who was not famous for being complementary of his players. Maybe the old football coach has softened in his elder years.
For Brissett, that is a great football mind to pick, and might help explain why he’s been able to have so much success early in his career.
The New England Patriots selected him in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft to be their third-string quarterback. Due to injury and suspension, he ended up starting in two and a half games that year.
With Colts quarterback Andrew Luck still dealing with a shoulder injury, they traded for Brissett just prior to the start of the 2017 season.
He led the Colts to a victory against the Cleveland Browns in Week 3, and has them competing on the road in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks. The score is 10-8 with slightly more than five minutes remaining in the second quarter.
