Ryan Shazier jumps out on the screen when Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Marrone breaks down film. Marrone believes the Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker is playing some of the best football in the NFL.
“[Ryan Shazier] is probably playing as well as any linebacker in the league right now,” Marrone said, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Marrone and the Jaguars face the Steelers on Sunday at Heinz Field.
The Steelers surprisingly have the NFL’s third ranked defense entering Week 5 and Shazier, like Marrone said, is a major reason why.
Shazier leads Pittsburgh in total tackles with 37. The next closest teammate to him his fellow inside linebacker Vince Williams who has 19 tackles.
The 6-foot-1 linebacker had a career year last season, totaling 87 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 3 interceptions which earned him his first Pro Bowl nod.
Shazier’z success last year has carried over to this season. He is starting to be recognized as one of the best linebackers in the NFL, and rightfully so.
