The New England Patriots defense has been carved up for third time this season.
Three of their first four games have been at home, and in those games they have given up 43 points in the opener, and 33 in consecutive weeks. The Patriots’ struggles on defense in Week 4 resulted in a loss to the Carolina Panthers, and safety Duron Harmon said that they need to do some soul searching.
“We gotta really take a look in the mirror,” Harmon said, via CLNS Media’s Mike Petraglia. “Everybody, top to bottom defense wise, and say ‘What can I do to be a better football [player] for the Patriots. What can I do to make sure I do my job each and every play when I get an opportunity.”

Harmon has good reason to be frustrated, their pass defense has been subpar throughout the first quarter of the regular season. There has been miscommunication, penalties and big plays.
This was supposed to an area of strength after signing cornerback Stephon Gilmore in free agency, and Malcolm Butler making his first All-Pro team in 2016.
Butler did record an interception on Sunday, but the Patriots gave up 316 yards passing and 3 touchdowns to Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, and every quarterback they have played in 2017 has put up huge fantasy numbers.
That’s going to have to change if the Patriots want to keep their Super Bowl dreams alive.
