SPORTS DAILY: Apathy setting in among Browns fans now

Not even the lure of Johnny Manziel’s reinstatement as starting quarterback seems to have fans of the 2-10 Browns interested in attending Sunday’s home game against the 49ers.

So now is the time to act if you want cheap tickets, according to this enlightening piece from cleveland.com.

It seems StubHub has tickets in the 500 level (upper deck) for less than $10. Still too much? Come on, it’s an NFL game.

Might also be the last winnable one on the Browns’ schedule, which also includes clashes with the Chiefs, Seahawks and, finally, the Steelers on Jan. 3.

Those 500 level seats normally go for at least $55, some close to $100.

Some lower-level seats now can be had on StubHub for less than $40, according to the report. So if you have something to yell at anybody, it might be worth it.

How pathetic is this? Well, consider the cheapest ticket as of Thursday on StubHub for Sunday’s Bengals-Steelers game lists for $78.

Could it be Browns fans are finally tired of all the losing? Could it be they are trying to make a statement beyond wearing paper bags on their heads? Or that they are voting for change with their wallets?

Just before kickoff last Sunday, Browns players looked around FirstEnergy Stadium and saw a sea of orange — not fans dressed in the team’s signature color, just seats painted that way. The venue was half-empty, even for the Battle of Ohio against the Bengals.

Expect more of the same this Sunday as what some are calling the worst season in Browns history drones to conclusion.

News just keeps getting better for Dayton Flyers

They upset Vanderbilt on the road Wednesday night and figure to vault into the Top 25 with a win Saturday at home.
Can it get any better for the Dayton Flyers in December?
It actually did Thursday with word from coach Archie Miller that senior forward Dyshawn Pierre will be a Flyer again when his sexual-assault suspension ends Dec. 20.
In other words, Pierre is not planning to transfer, which puts to rest a rumor that had been making the rounds.
Miller stopped short of saying Pierre definitely would play this season. He’ll need to meet with him and his family first.
“If it’s feasible, (he’ll play),” Miller told David Jablonski, Flyers beat writer for the Dayton Daily News. “If not, he’ll sit out a year.”
World Series champs check with Reds on Frazier
Add the World Series champion Kansas City Royals to the list of teams showing interest in Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier, at least according to this report.
Wednesday, the Reds were said to be speaking with the Indians and White Sox about Frazier. Seems all of baseball is circling like vultures over the Reds, who announced they were having a clearinghouse sale before the winter meetings but have yet to make a single trade.
Oh, they tried to divest themselves of expensive closer Aroldis Chapman, but you know what happened there. They were stymied by an October police report alleging Chapman’s involvement in an ugly domestic incident that caused the Dodgers to back out of a deal for mid-level prospects.
But it’s never too late to trade good players, so the Reds still have all winter to carry out their mission.
Meanwhile, check out winter meetings winners and losers here. Biggest loser: Chapman.
