Thursday’s assignment for the New England Patriots’ last place defense just got more difficult.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers activated running back Doug Martin on Monday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Martin is expected to play on Thursday night against the Patriots.
Monday’s expected news marks the end of Martin’s four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs.
Martin’s reemergence will certainly help a Bucs offense that’s ranked No. 29 in the league and simultaneously make New England’s job more difficult in Week 5.
The Patriots currently have the NFL’s worst defense. Bill Belichick said it’s going to take a collective effort for his team to get better. Belichick will now have to officially add Martin into the defensive game plan.
On Thursday night it’s going to be interesting to see how the Buccaneers incorporate Martin in his season debut. Tampa Bay is well aware that the Patriots have a leaky defense.
