Girls basketball: Thomas out as Tecumseh head coach

Danielle Thomas is out after 12 years as the Tecumseh girls basketball coach.

Thomas announced on Twitter on Friday that she was informed that her contract would not be renewed after 12 years as coach. Thomas led the Arrows to a 17-8 record and their fourth straight Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division championship this season.

“Reasons behind is I was told is I am too old school, & my thought of what a student athlete is does not match what they believe,” Thomas wrote on Twitter.

“I did not QUIT on Tecumseh, I was fired!” Thomas continued.

Tecumseh athletic director Craig Eier said Saturday he would not comment on the decision. Thomas is out of town and was unavailable for comment Saturday.

Thomas compiled a record of 184-99 and won five league titles in the past seven years. She had losing seasons in her first three years, but the Arrows never won fewer than 14 games in the ensuing seasons. They won 23 games in 2012-13 and 22 in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

Thomas also expressed gratitude for all of those who were a part of her tenure and helped build the program.

“I was just happy to be a part of it, we have a lot of great memories,” she wrote.
