Reaction from fellow players quickly followed Sergio Garcia’s victory for his first major on Sunday at the 81st Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.

Rory McIlroy‏, who needs only a Masters victory for a career grand slam, tweeted:

“2 unbelievable players and 2 great friends, but I couldn’t be happier for @TheSergioGarcia. You deserve it all amigo!!”

That came after McIlroy earlier cheered him on: “Let him have one…. VAMOS!!!”

Spaniard Jon Rahm, who played in his first Masters as a PGA Tour rookie this week, and made the cut, tweeted in Spanish:

“That’s big. Let’s go.”

Englishman Ian Poulter, who did not play in this Masters, tweeted:

“What a @TheMasters. Sad to see Justin miss out, but for @sergio to win a Major on #Seve’s birthday & finally become the Major champion he is.”

Darren Clarke, a British Open champ in 2011 who was the 2016 European Ryder Cup captain, said:

“Just brilliant @TheSergioGarcia Feel for @JustinRose99 but both guys were just amazing. @TheMasters”

Shane Lowry, who played in this Masters and missed the cut:

“He deserved one”

Graeme McDowell‏, a major winner himself:

“Is this Sergio’s time? The golfing gods owe him one but the game doesn’t often pay its debts.”

Justin Thomas of Alabama, who tied for 22nd in this Masters and who one day may well be fitted for a green jacket:

“Congrats to Sergio!! So happy for him. So deserving for an amazing career he’s had.. Forever a major champion!”

And this from Seve Ballesteros’ son, Javier, earlier in the day:

“Happy 60th birthday dad! Miss you every day! Im sure you’ll be pushing for Sergio today!! @SeveBallesteros #Dad #Masters #VamosSergio”
