Jametown native and Greeneview High School grad Matt Brown's fight at UFC 198 started before he got to the ring.

Several fans went after Brown as he was walking to the ring in front of 45,000 fans at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil. He fought off hometown hero Demian Maia for three rounds before submitting to a rear-naked choke with less than 30 seconds left. It was the first submission loss for Brown since 2011.

Brown became a center of controversy during match weigh ins Friday when Brazilian fans began chanting "you're going to die" in Portugese. Brown responded with multiple obscene gestures.
