High School Football: 5 games to watch in Week 1

Summer camp is over, it’s time to start counting them for real for high school football teams.

The first three weeks are normally reserved for non-conference games, but there are certainly some great Week 1 matchups.

Here are five games to watch:

Alter vs. Fairmont (Thursday night): The Knights and Firebirds renew the rivalry at Roush Stadium. One of these days the Firebirds will find a way to win, but it’s not likely this year.

Dunbar vs. Belmont (Thursday night): A rematch of the crazy game that ended last season and precipitated OHSAA handing down a $10,000 fine and three-year probation for Dayton Public Schools.

Dunbar features two blue-chip recruits in Tavion Thomas and Joseph Scates. Thomas has verbally committed to Oklahoma while Scates appears to favor Alabama.

Tippecanoe at Bellbrook: Friday night's Touchdown 7 spotlight falls on Bellbrook where the Golden Eagles host Tippecanoe. The Red Devils showcase running back Cole Barhorst.

Troy at Trotwood: If you're looking for a game with some history try this one. The Rams went to the Division III title game last season, but they lost the opener at Troy. The Trojans own a two-game winning streak in the series.
