Isaacs, Cochran re-write Lebanon record books in 49-28 win over Piqua

Dusty Isaacs to Chase Cochran has been a common aerial connection for three seasons at Lebanon High. Friday night, in front of a Homecoming crowd, the senior duo re-wrote the Warrior record books.

Lebanon beat visiting Piqua, 49-28 on Friday, Sept. 25, improving to 4-1 on the season. The Warriors piled up a school record 624 yards of total offense, and it was Isaacs and Cochran doing most of the damage.

Isaacs completed 21-of-27 passes for a school record 412 yards and four touchdowns — tying another school record.

Cochran caught a single-game record 12 passes for a single-game record 296 yards and tied his own school record with three touchdown receptions. He also broke the career reception (102 and counting) and yardage (2,302 and counting) records. Both career records were previously held by Ty Merchant.

“I wear No. 8 because of Ty Merchant,” Cochran said. “I grew up watching him, he was my favorite player. I’ve been chasing his records since I started playing in high school, so this is a very big deal for me.”

Isaacs and Cochran connected on touchdown passes of 93, 85 and 30 yards. Isaacs also thew a touchdown to Brody Wolf covering 26 yards and ran one in from a yard out. In the course of the game, he passed Charlie Rittgers’ career passing yardage record, setting a new mark at 4,187 yards and counting.

“Lebanon is known for its great quarterbacks — Brady Merchant, Charlie Rittgers, Tyler Pritchard, Shaun Addison — it’s a great honor to be with those guys,” Isaacs said. “But I couldn’t do it without the exceptional talent around me. Our line, receivers and backs are fantastic. I can’t say enough about them.”

Lebanon raced to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter — the third time it’s done that in five games. In addition to the aerial circus, sophomore Aaron Abbott rushed for 106 yards and Trey Bonny added 76 on the ground. Each of them ran for a touchdown as well.

Piqua (1-4) managed to cut the deficit to 14 on three occasions, but Lebanon’s offense always had an answer.

The Warrior defense forced three turnovers and held the Indians to 212 total yards, but the night belonged to Isaacs and Cochran.

“I’m really proud of Dusty and Chase,” Lebanon coach Shawn Lamb said. “They’ve been through some tough times early in their career, but we knew someday it would pay off. I couldn’t be happier for their accomplishments, they deserve it.

“We ran up some big numbers tonight, but we still have to eliminate some mistakes. I love this group of seniors. They know it’s a business, and for 48 minutes tonight they took care of business.”
