Kenton Ridge grad Via wins U.S. Amateur bowling title

Kenton Ridge graduate Chris Via won the United States National Amateur Bowling Championship Thursday in Las Vegas, Nev., and earned a spot on Team USA.

Via beat the top seed, Kamron Doyle, of Brentwood, Tenn., 219-212 in the finals. Via beat AJ Chapman, of Manchester, Iowa, 279-246 to advance to the final.

“Words can not describe the feeling I have right now!” Via wrote on Facebook. “Absolutely an unbelievable week! Came here with one goal in mind and got a bonus along the way. I can now say that I am a member of Team USA and the 2016 U.S. Amateur Champion!”

Via and the U.S. bowling team will compete at the 2016 QubicaAMF World Cup in Shanghai, China, in October.
