The fourth and fifth members of Dayton’s 2017 recruiting class will arrive on campus Thursday, meaning the whole 2017-18 team will be together for the first time. Classes for the second summer session start Saturday.

In an email to the Dayton Daily News on Wednesday night, forward Matej Svoboda, of the Czech Republic, wrote he was scheduled to arrive Thursday morning. Forward Obadiah Toppin, of Ossining, N.Y., responded to a text message and wrote he is scheduled to fly to Dayton on Thursday night.

Three freshmen arrived earlier this month: center Jordan Pierce and guards Jalen Crutcher and Jordan Davis. All three arrived after the first summer session started. However, the NCAA adopted a new rule in 2016 allowing incoming freshmen to begin training on campus before starting classes.

Here’s the rule: “In basketball, a prospective student-athlete who is enrolled in at least three degree-applicable credit hours in one summer term that is fewer than eight weeks in duration may engage in required weight-training, conditioning and skill-related instruction before the summer term in which he or she is enrolled begins, provided the required athletic activities do not begin before the day after the institution’s spring commencement exercises occur.”

Teams can train up to eight hours per week during the summer, but no more than two of those hours can be spent on skill-related instruction.

With the whole team about to start training, Dayton announced uniform numbers Thursday.

Jordan Davis is No. 4. Crutcher is No. 10. Svoboda has Scoochie Smith’s No. 11. Toppin will wear No. 12. Pierce has No. 14.

Sophomore Trey Landers changed from No. 12 to No. 3. Redshirt freshman Kostas Antetokounmpo will wear No. 13.
