Love breaks school record in win vs. Green Bay

Loudon Love didn’t lead Wright State in rebounds Saturday night.

But the freshman center now leads every WSU player who has ever suited up.

The fifth of Love’s seven rebounds broke Thad Burton’s single-season record of 305 as the Raiders posted an 87-72 victory against Green Bay in the Horizon League tournament quarterfinals at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit.

“It’s a pretty big deal, but we’ve still got two games to focus on here,” Love said after breaking the record that had stood since 1997. “It’s a credit to all these guys. I mean, they’re boxing out, too.

“A lot of (rebounds) come my way because I’m under there,” Love added. “ I’m there a lot. And offensively, that’s where some of production comes as well. I didn’t get many tonight, but usually that’s what it is.”

Grant Benzinger led the Raiders with nine as WSU won the battle of the boards 36-32.

Another major record was reached with the win, the team’s 23rd of the season. That ties the single-season, Division I mark set by the 2006-07 and 2012-13 teams.
