March Madness: Archie Miller needs ‘big plays’ from Dayton Flyers

UD plays Wichita State in NCAA tournament Friday

The Dayton Flyers will hold a closed practice and an open practice Thursday in Indianapolis. Fans can attend the open practice from 4:25 to 5:05 p.m. at Bankers Life FieldHouse.

Practices began at noon. Oklahoma State was the first team to take the court and was followed by Jacksonville State. Then it’s Michigan, Louisville, Dayton, Kentucky, Wichita State and Northern Kentucky. All the teams will be taking part in press conferences as well.

Dayton’s four senior starters will hope to extend their season and careers as long as possible past a 7:10 p.m. Friday game against Wichita State in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

“They’re probably going to have to be as tough as they’ve ever been,” Dayton coach Archie Miller said Wednesday after arriving at the Omni Severin Hotel in Indianapolis. “They’ve shown some signs they’ll be ready on Friday night. They’ve been in a lot of big games. I don’t think they’re scared. When you get to the end of the tunnel, you just want to be excited to play, but there’s more than just excitement that goes into Friday. There’s got to be attention to detail. There’s going to be a lot of hard plays, and those guys are going to have to make some big plays for us to have a chance.”
