MLB All-Star Game: What you need to know

The Reds are off for the next four days, but baseball is not.

Annual All-Star Game festivities already got underway over the weekend, including the Futures Game at Petco Park in San Diego. Amir Garrett represented the Reds, tossing two scoreless innings as the U.S. Futures team lost to the World team 11-3. The lefty walked two but did not allow a hit.

The party continues Monday night with the annual Home Run Derby at 8 p.m. on ESPN. Adam Duvall will try to become the fourth Red to win the event, which will again consist of three rounds of head-to-head matchups.

The format was a smashing success last season as then-Red Todd Frazier won in front of his home crowd at Great American Ball Park. Frazier is back in the derby this season as a member of the White Sox and could face Duvall in the second round if both win their opening matchups. Duvall is the No. 3 seed and will face Padres outfielder Wil Meyers in the first round while Frazier, the No. 2 seed, will take on Carlos Gonzalez of Colorado.

The 87th All-Star Game is set for 7:30 ET Tuesday night on Fox with fellow outfielder Jay Bruce joining Duvall to form the Reds contingent. Both are reserves. It is the first All-Star selection for Duvall while Bruce is going to the Midsummer Classic for the third time.

Here are seven things to know about Duvall, who was acquired last season as the Reds began the rebuilding process.

The Reds, 32-57 in the first half and 21.5 games out of first place, are scheduled to resume the season Friday night in Milwaukee.
