Wright State rival Valparaiso announced it is leaving the Horizon League for the Missouri Valley Conference on Thursday.
The move comes 16 days after the MVC extended the invitation and less than 24 hours after the Valpo baseball season ended with a first-round loss to Oakland in the HL tournament.
Horizon League commissioner Jon LeCrone, who said two weeks ago the conference was prepared for Valpo’s departure, issued a brief statement following Thursday’s announcement.
“This news was certainly not unexpected. The Horizon League is guided by a strategic plan, approved by our Board of Directors in 2014, and it includes specific and intentional strategies for membership retention and expansion. Our league bylaws govern how we will proceed in the next few weeks, relative to our transitioning member.”
