Bengals-Steelers: Matchup to watch

Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger vs. Cincinnati S Reggie Nelson

Roethlisberger has thrown 10 interceptions in his last eight games against the Bengals, and Nelson has been the player victimizing most of the time.

Nelson has six interceptions against Roethlisberger in their last seven meetings, including two in the Bengals’16-10 win at Pittsburgh on Nov. 1.

Of Nelson’s interceptions, two stopped Steelers drives inside the Cincinnati 15-yard line, while three led directly to points, including the winning field goal in the Week 16 game in 2012 in Pittsburgh that clinched a playoff berth.

“I think turnovers are important in a game like this, obviously,” Bengals defensive backs coach Vance Joseph said. “With Ben, he’s thrown some (interceptions) in the past that have been overthrows, tipped balls.”

The 16 interceptions Roethlisberger has thrown in 2015 are the second most of his career, and that came with him missing five starts due to injury.

Roethlisberger has thrown two interceptions in each of his last three games. The last time he threw multiple picks in three consecutive games was the first three weeks of the 2006 season, when the Steelers started 0-3.

There have been 42 times in Roethlisberger’s career where he has thrown multiple picks. The Steelers are 12-30 in those instances.
