Rainey joins pitcher Zack Weiss and third baseman Alex Blandino, who were promoted from Louisville on Monday, on the list of current Reds waiting to make their major league debuts.
The Reds signed Gallardo on March 31, hoping he would help in the bullpen. He made three appearances for the Reds and had a 30.86 ERA. He allowed eight earned runs on eight hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Rainey, 25, made two relief appearances for Louisville and didn’t allow a run in two innings. He split time last season between Single-A Daytona (3.80 ERA in 39 appearances) and Double-A Pensacola (2.12 ERA in 14 appearances).
