Reds Zack Cozart out for season; team signs Padres' Kivlehan

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cozart was placed on the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.

Cozart, who was expected to return this season, won't play again until 2017 after suffering a right knee injury. He played in 121 games this year, hitting .252 with a career-high 16 home runs and 50 RBIs. He hasn't played since Sept. 10 against Pittsburgh, going 1-for-5 with a strikeout.

Cozart going on the DL made room for the Reds to claim Patrick Kivlehan off waivers from the San Diego Padres. Kivlehan played for three different Pacific League Triple-A teams in 2016, hitting .254 with 12 home runs, 49 RBIs, 24 walks and 19 doubles. His .OBP was .302. Kivlehan is expected to join Cincinnati this weekend.
