The Chicago Cubs are sending Middletown’s Kyle Schwarber down to Triple-A, according to David Kaplan of CSN Chicago.

Schwarber, who helped the Cubs to their first World Series title since 1908 last year, is hitting .171 this season with 12 home runs and 28 RBIs.

Schwarber came back from a knee injury last season to play in the World Series against Cleveland and hit .412 as a designated hitter.

The team is expected to announce the move later today, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Mark Gonzales.
