HS Roundup 5/7: Monroe, Mechanicsburg perfect in sectional opener

Monroe and Mechanicsburg softball started off the postseason in perfect fashion, tossing perfect games in their first round matchups on Tuesday.

Monroe beat Ponitz 15-0, with Alyssa Wagner and Honour Stevens combining on a perfect game.

Wagner improved to 16-1 and Samantha Ross had a 3-for-3 day at the plate.

Francys King and Daytaviah Rodgers combined on a perfect game in Mechanicsburg’s 17-0 win versus Jackson Center. Megan Alspaugh hit a pair of doubles and scored four runs. And Hanna DeLong drove in three runs off of two hits.

Baseball

Arcanum 9, Anna 1: Wade Meeks struck out nine in a winning effort, totaling three hits with two RBI at the plate to help his cause. Carver Gostomsky and Austin Smith added two hits apiece.

Ben Logan 12, Urbana 0: Kade Arn pitched a no-hit shutout for Ben Logan. Trace Tevis had a run-scoring triple and Christian Hardman and Cole Jones each notched multiple hits.

Centerville 4, Moeller 3: Matt Graveline drove in the winning run for Centerville in the bottom of the eighth inning. Shea Hendrixson picked up the win on the mound and Tad Ferrell and Jared Lieberman had pitching appearances.

Greeneview 3, Northridge 2: Ian Tamplin smacked a pair of doubles and Jack Nix picked up the win on the mound for Greeneview on senior night.

Kenton Ridge 6, Tecumseh 1: Justin Maurer, Kaelan Lemen and Alex Ward recorded two hits apiece to pace Kenton Ridge. Gavin Wasson went 2-for-3 with a double in a losing effort for Tecumseh.

Madison 8, Tri-County North 1: Madison pulled away with three-run rallies in the fifth and seventh innings. Casey Whipp plated the lone run for TCN.

St. Henry 6, Eaton 2: Jay Knapke tallied four hits in as many at-bats with two RBI and Marc Siefring finished 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead St. Henry.

Valley View 8, Fairborn 5: Valley View took control with four runs in the third inning. Ben Wischer had a sacrifice fly for Fairborn.

Division II

Badin 14, Indian Hill 0: Emma Kent finished 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI and Haley Drott added a triple with two RBI to lead Badin. Sydney Feenstra struck out ten to pick up the win in the circle.

Kenton Ridge 6, Bellefontaine 2: Lexee Trainer went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, Maddy Hall was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Jordan Rucker added three hits to lead Kenton Ridge. Caitlin Shumaker hit a double for Bellefontaine.

Regular Season

Ben Logan 6, Urbana 0: Grace Deardurff tallied 19 strikeouts in picking up her 18th win. Deardurff also had a double with three RBI to help her cause and LeAnn Regula and Jenn Naragon added two hits with one RBI apiece.

Fort Loramie 3, Anna 2: Clara Gephart blasted a two-run homer and Desiree Fogt scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning for Fort Loramie. Olivia Place went 3-for-3 with three doubles to lead Anna.

Midwest Athletic Conference All-Conference Teams: Taylor Homan and Robb Hemmelgarn of Minster headlined the All-Conference awards announced on Tuesday. Homan was named player of the year and Hemmelgarn coach of the year. Jenna Poeppelman, Karly Richard and Kaitlyn Wolf joined Homan on the first team for Minster.

Boys Tennis

Miamisburg 4, Greeneview 1: Sekar Dhansekar, Jonathan Bierley and Jacob Brooks swept the singles matches for ‘Burg.

Middletown 5, West Carrollton 0: Deniz Misirlioglu, Jacob Brown and Alex Chairez tallied singles victories to lead Middletown.

Boys Volleyball

Carroll 3, Alter 1: John Brun scored 23 kills with 18 digs, Cannon Tucker added ten kills with 10 digs and Tyler Goecke 22 assists for Carroll. James Darnieder led Alter with 23 assists, Collin Kepple added 14 kills and Michael Johnston 19 digs in a losing effort for Alter.

Edgewood 3, Monroe 2: Griffin Smith recorded eight blocks with 18 kills, Dew Vallandingham added ten kills and Jacob Insprucker 21 assists for Edgewood.

Girls Lacrosse

Miamisburg 9, Little Miami 6: Alaina Wells put in three goals and Molly Brown, Emma Wyss and Isabella Whitt tacked on two apiece to pace Miamisburg.
