HS Roundup 3/3: Troy’s Lizzy Deal places 5th all around at state

Lizzy Deal scored 36.825 points to earn herself fifth place in the all-around competition for Troy at the OHSAA Gymnastics State Championships.

Deal also earned bronze in the uneven parallel bars, 10th on floor, 19th on beam and 12th on vault.

Troy placed ninth in the state tournament.

Miamisburg followed close behind, placing 10th overall as a team.

Madison Ahrens competed for Versailles, placing 16th in her floor exercise and 21st all around.

Sectional Tournament

Fairmont 73, Miamisburg 48: Fairmont shot for a 15 point swing in the first quarter, pulling away from Miamisburg early on to earn the victory. Ryan Hall led Fairmont with 20 points in the D-I sectional championship. Fairmont will face Moeller in the district finals.

Bethel 75, Waynesville 49: Bethel took home its third consecutive sectional title in the win. Ryan Rose scored 22 points to lead Bethel in the win. Alex Van Haaren tacked on his second triple-double of the year with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks.

Versailles 74, West Liberty-Salem 50: Despite only holding a six point lead at halftime, a 40-22 second half run clinched the 24 point victory for Versailles. Justin Ahrens exploded for 32 for Versailles. Trevor Burden netted 17 in the loss.

Stivers 66, Dayton Christian 45: Da’Juan Allen shot for 21 points in the sectionals win. Allan Latimore tacked on 17. Anton Webb put up 22 points of his own for Dayton Christian.

Anna 54, Brookville 41: Riley Heulskamp netted 17 points in the win as Anna advances to face Purcell Marian in the D-III district finals on Tuesday at UD,.

Fort Loramie 47, Ansonia 24: Tyler Siegel netted 14 points for Fort Loramie in the D-IV victory. Trevor Alexander led in the losing effort with nine.

District Tournament

Covington 54, Legacy Christian 42: Samantha Whiteman worked hard for 23 points in the D-IV district championship. Emma Hess countered with 22 in the loss.

Bowling

State Championship

Boys Division II: Mechanisburg took home the state title, while St. Henry took third and Graham fifth. Caleb Westfall bowled the second highest score of the championship with a 681 series for ‘Burg. Tanner Monaghan had a 644 series for Graham.

Girls Division II: Coldwater placed second overall, while Versailles came in at fourth, St. Marys at fifth, Northwestern at sixth and Graham at seventh. Emily Fortener and Lauren Wenning each bowled 600+ series for Coldwater.
