In search of history, Blue Jackets bombed by Capitals

The bid for history ended with a thud.

Seeking their NHL record-tying 17th straight win, the Columbus Blue Jackets dropped a 5-0 decision to the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.

Columbus, whose last loss came Nov. 26, were looking to join the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins as winners of 17 straight.

The Blue Jackets (27-6-4) return home to face the New York Rangers on Saturday night at Nationwide Arena.Washington improved to 24-9-5.
