Second Thoughts: Kentucky will take intrigue out of NCAA tourney

Knucklehead of the Week

Texans safety D.J. Swearinger got some work done on his truck, which is cool. A custom shop in Houston gave his pickup a new paint job, a Batman logo, a custom grill and a train horn, among other goodies. One problem: Swearinger skipped out on the $20,000 bill and the shop reported the oversight to the police. There are reports that hint this was a “misunderstanding,” which could be the case. Or maybe Swearinger wanted a Superman logo instead.

My big-screen TV that melted down on Christmas Day is supposed to be replaced this week. Finally. If it isn’t, the folks at Sharp are going to be experiencing a whole new kind of March Madness!

Sometimes computers are stupid. Have you seen the analytics that rate Kentucky's chances of running the table? I saw one that claimed UK has a 32 percent chance of going undefeated. Thirty-two percent? If that computer could see, it would say 99 percent.

I wrote in my Nov. 23 column that UK would go undefeated this season. The NCAA tournament field will be announced a week from tonight. It’s a great event, but everyone but the Wildcats will be playing for second place.

When it was time to take Jordan Sibert out of Tuesday's game against Rhode Island — Sibert's finale at UD Arena — Archie Miller waited until a stoppage on the far end of the court. That way, Sibert had a long walk to the bench, giving him time to soak in the standing ovation.

Maybe the timing was an accident, but I’d like to think smart people think about things like that. Now if we can just get college coaches to go for more 2-for-1’s at the end of the half …

Great move by the OHSAA's Southwest District to move high-profile boys basketball tournament games to UD Arena. Some of the tiny venues it chooses for the postseason make no sense, but they got this one right. A lot of people want to see Franklin's Luke Kennard play before he heads to Duke. The larger venue allows that to happen.

UD's women get their third shot at George Washington this season in today's A-10 championship game. The Flyers got a scare Saturday when Ally Malott went down when her knee bent the wrong way. She did return with a sporty red knee wrap and looked OK.

Trending up: Dominique Wilkins, Adam Wainwright, Rey Maualuga. I feel bad for you kids, and not just because you're addicted to video games. You didn't get to see Dominique Wilkins play. He was one of the best dunkers ever, and the Atlanta Hawks honored him last week with a granite sculpture that stands 13 1/2 feet. In his prime, Wilkins might've dunked over it.

Trending down: Jim Boeheim, Yu Darvish, Troy Polamalu. The cranky Syracuse coach had a bad week. The NCAA hammered Boeheim's school with a laundry list of serious violations and Boeheim will serve a nine-game suspension next season. He practiced his no-show moves Saturday after the Orange's loss to North Carolina State, skipping the postgame media session.
