Tigers build 6-0 lead before Madison rallies

Versailles avenged a 2018 district championship loss, beating Middletown Madison 8-4 in a Division III regional semifinal on Thursday at Wright State’s Nischwitz Stadium.

The Tigers (17-9) advanced to the 5 p.m. regional final on Friday against Roger Bacon, which beat Cincinnati Country Dayton 4-2 in the first regional semifinal Thursday at Wright State. Versailles seeks its ninth state berth and first since 2016.

The regional champion plays in the state final four at 4 p.m. June 8 at Canal Park in Akron. The Division III state championship takes place a day later at 7 p.m.

Versailles scored a run in each of the first three innings and added three runs in the fourth. Madison got back in the game with four runs in the fifth.

Madison fell to 0-3 all time in the regional tournament. The Mohawks finished the season 24-7. A year ago, Madison beat Versailles 1-0 in eight innings.
