Man travels world with message for his mom: 'I'm fine'

Modern technology has made it easier than ever to communicate with loved ones across the globe, but that isn't the case everywhere.

When Brussels resident Jonathan Kubben Quiñonez found himself having difficulty getting in touch with his mother abroad, he did what any modern globetrotter would do: He started an Instragram page.

Quiñonez, 27, had a thirst for adventure and decided to quit his job and travel the world, starting in Cuba.

"When I arrived there, with the time difference, the Communist party blocking the internet and the prices of phone calls, it was difficult to communicate with my friends and family," he told The LAD Bible.

So he took to Instagram to document his trip and let his mother know that he was, in fact, fine.

"Whatever your age is, if you have a Latin mom and a passion for adventure, you will have to find a way to tell her that you are fine," Quiñonez wrote on Instagram. "This is my way."

For nine weeks, he's documented his travels through Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico with photos including a sign that says "Mom, I'm fine."

"I started to take pictures in funny or scary situations with my sign," he told The LAD Bible. "Whatever the situation was, I always found a way to give my message."

He told the website that he plans to travel around South America through at least the end of the summer.
