Sunny, mild today; slow warming trend underway

As the days grow shorter and the air gets cooler, Mother Nature has started pulling back the blanket of green foliage to reveal the bright reds, yellows, oranges and browns of autumn at Lincoln Park in Kettering. MARSHALL GORBY\STAFF

It will be sunny and mild today with a slow warming trend starting this weekend that will gradually push high temperatures into the upper 70s next week before rain returns.

The high for today will be near 70 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Overnight, it will be clear and chilly, with a low around 39 degrees. Patchy frost is likely.

On Saturday, it will be sunny and a little warmer, with a high around 73 degrees, followed by a clear night with a low around 43 degrees.

Sunday will be sunny with a high temperature around 74 degrees. Overnight will remain clear with a low around 46 degrees.

Monday will be sunny with a high near 76 degrees.
