The Dayton area’s independent steakhouse restaurants responded in different ways to the March 15 order from Gov. Mike DeWine and state health officials shutting all dining rooms in Ohio.

Some shut down their kitchens entirely and did not attempt to offer carryout or delivery. Others aggressively pursued carryout and curbside pickup business. Some started selling their uncooked steaks for their customers to attempt to re-create the steakhouse experience at home. And several did some combination of strategies.

Steakhouse owners are responding to the May 21 lifting of the shutdown order with some of the same diversity of thought and strategy as they showed in mid-March. Some opened their doors on Day 1; some are waiting until this week or next week; and at least one has not yet set a reopening date.
