Think of it as a soft launch of sorts.

“Rolling Indulgence” — the food-truck concept created by three employees of Carvers Steaks & Chops specifically for the cable television series “The Great Food Truck Race” that aired earlier this year on the Food Network — will offer the first taste of its food to its Dayton area fans at Saturday’s Bacon Fest.

The actual physical Rolling Indulgence food truck isn’t ready to roll just yet, so the Food Network stars will be serving from a booth at the event, which starts at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at Fraze Pavilion in Kettering.

“Just a booth, only two items,” Rolling Indulgence founder Drew Ballard said. The crew that includes his two “Rolling Indulgence” cable TV teammates — his fiancee, Jess Sarra, and his roommate, Travis Day, both of whom also work for Carvers — will be serving Maple Bacon Brownies and Buttered BLT with Bacon Dressing, according to event organizers.

Season 10 of The Great Food Truck Race invited nine teams that had never operated a food truck before to apply to be contestants and compete for a top prize of $50,000. Each week, while traveling around Florida and setting up shop in various cities, the team that had the lowest sales was eliminated.

The Dayton-based Rolling Indulgence team performed well on the series, surviving six episodes that whittled the field of competitors from nine teams to three, before they bowed out July 21.

Ballard, head chef at Carvers Steak & Chops who came up with the idea of applying to appear on the show, and his teammates are planning a “launch party” in early September at Warped Wing Brewing Company, after the food truck has passed inspections and has been “wrapped” with its logo and branding.

Rolling Indulgence will be making appearances at local festivals and food-truck rallies this fall to  introduce the Miami Valley to the Rolling Indulgence brand and food.
