Marketing company seeking Dayton musicians for music video contest

One of Dayton's full-service design and digital marketing agencies, ruef Design, is offering to produce, film and edit a music video for a local musician or band for free.

The creative agency is eager to highlight and promote Dayton talent. "We think now more than ever, we need positivity and creativity to thrive," the company stated in its online application.

"We want to extend our video production services to one local musician/group who has recorded music recently and wants to make a music video for the next hit single from Dayton! We want to use our talents to help share your talent."

The company specializes in technical communications and marketing for business-to-business buyers in manufacturing, engineering, and industrial spaces. However, they have also created music videos for high-profile artists and bands in Dayton and Cincinnati. They also really enjoy the collaborating with the musicians.

The winner of the contest will have a strategy session, then get a 1-2 day production shoot. reuf Design will edit and add motion graphics with three rounds of artist feedback before sharing the video with the world.

"The goal of the contest is to inspire creativity, give something back to our community the best way we know how, meet local talent, and collaborate with artists to help turn their music into something visually special and unique," owner Zack Ruef told us.

Ruef along with photographers Brent Thurston and James Davis, will be the camera operators that will be shooting the music video.

"We love Dayton and would like to give something back,” Ruef said. "We believe in nurturing the arts and creativity, now more than ever."

How to Apply:

  • To be considered, band/artist must fill out the Entry Form at ruef.com/music-video-contest or click here.
  • One original song (up to 6 minutes in length; no cover songs!) from one band/artist will be selected by ruef Design for a FREE music video production
  • Entry submission period: June 10th, 2020 – July 17th, 2020
  • Song must already be recorded and published, or recorded and ready to publish soon (within 3 months from winner selection date)
  • Winner and ruef Design will have a planning and strategy meeting where we talk with the winner and plan the shoot
  • Music video production will include a 1-2-day video shoot, editing, and any motion graphics/experimental visual elements
  • 3 rounds of band/artist feedback
  • ruef Design has final editorial review
  • Band/artist will own final video and will receive a full HD video file ready to share on YouTube, Facebook, wherever!
  • We do hope that the selected artist tag and credit ruef Design on social media posts when the video launches!
