The NFL announced the AFC and NFC Players of the Week on Wednesday, and while it wasn't a big shock that no Bengals players were honored, it was a bit of a surprise that none were even nominated.

Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert had nine catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns, all of which were career highs. But he was not among the six players nominated for the award that went to Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota, who became the first player in NFL history to throw for four first-half touchdowns in his NFL debut.

Mariota went 13 of 16 for 209 yards and four touchdowns for a perfect passer rating of 158.3.

The other nominees were New England quarterback Tom Brady (25 of 32 for 288 yards and four touchdowns); New York Jets running back Chris Ivory (91 rushing yards, two touchdowns); Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith (22 of 33 for 243 yards and three touchdowns); Buffalo quarterback Tyrod Taylor (14 of 19 for 195 yards and one touchdown); and San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers (35 of 42 for 404 yards and two touchdowns).

The AFC Defensive Player of the Week was Denver cornerback Aqib Talib, who had a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown along with three tackles and two passes defended.

Bengals cornerback Adam Jones had a carer-high 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass defended but was not nominated. New York Jets safety Calvin Pryor had 10 tackles and a forced fumble and was nominated.

The AFC Special Teams Player of the Week was Miami punt returner Jarvis Landry, who had a 69-yard return for the game-winning touchdown in a 17-10 triumph of Washington.
