McCarron confirmed the issue was not in his throwing shoulder, which is what caused him to miss the entire preseason during his rookie year and landed him on the Non-Football Injury list until Nov. 18.
"My shoulder is great," McCarron said. "My shoulder has never felt better than it has as long as I can remember. People don’t need to worry about my shoulder. My shoulder is great. I’m throwing the ball great. It’s just a minor setback.
"It was at the beginning of (Monday's) practice," he continued. "I tried to push through it toward the end and couldn’t take it anymore. They told me no risk in pushing it. They told me to get out. As of right now I'm day to day."
McCarron, who said the injury is "something that happens to baseball pitchers," made it clear he wants to play against the Giants and feels as though he could. But he's taking the advice of his coaches, teammates and trainers.
"It is (frustrating)," he said. "I’m trying to push to play, but I’m also going to take the advice of the doctors and Mr. Paul (Sparling, the team's head trainer) and everybody else.
"I know it’s important (to play in the preseason), but like the guys have been telling me and the coaches I’ve talked to, if I’m not 100 percent there then there’s no reason to push it," McCarron continued. "Because just in case, god forbid, I’m needed during the season, most of the guys and coaches said I feel like I’ve done a good job showing what I can do. There’s no reason to take a risk on delaying that process. I’m bummed out over it, but I’m taking their advice and doing what they tell me to do."
