Boehner says National Security Adviser's comments on Netanyahu speech are 'destructive'

Our Washington Bureau reporter Tina Nazerian says House Speaker John Boehner today sharply objected to White House National Security Adviser Susan’s Rice charge that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech next week before a joint session of Congress is “destructive of the fabric” of the relationship between the United States and Israel.

“I couldn’t disagree more,” said Boehner, R-West Chester Twp., who invited Netanyahu to speak without consulting the White House. “The American people and both parties in Congress have always stood with Israel. Nothing and no one should get in the way of that.

Netanyahu has voiced strong disagreement with efforts by the U.S. to negotiate an agreement with Iran which would curb its plans to construct a nuclear bomb. At a press conference on Capitol Hill, Boehner said “what is destructive in my view is making a bad deal that paves the way for a nuclear Iran.”

“That’s destructive and that’s why it’s so important for the American people to hear what Prime Minister Netanyahu has to say about the grave threats that we’re facing.”
