Congressman wants to oust Boehner as Speaker

A conservative House member is seeking to remove House Speaker John Boehner of his leadership position, according to an article on POLITICO by Lauren French and Jake Sherman

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., filed what is called a "motion to vacate the chair" on Tuesday.

"The resolution states that Boehner has tried to 'consolidate power and centralize decision-making, bypassing the majority of the 435 members of Congress and the people they represent.' It accuses the speaker of using the 'legislative calendar to create crises for the American people, in order to compel members to vote for legislation.'"

"The resolution to 'vacate the chair,' as it's known, was filed as a non-priveleged resolution, which means it will be referred to the Rules Committee rather than triggering an immediate vote on the House floor. House Rules panel Chairman Pete Sessions told reporters Tuesday afternoon that he would look at the resolution before determining the next course of action, and it's possible Meadows' measure will never actually get a floor vote."
