Republican candidate Ben Carson on Wednesday said that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz probably cost him votes by spreading a rumor that he had dropped out of the race.

At the National Press Club in Washington, Carson said "It's clear that there were people who tried to take advantage of a situation," Carson said.

On Wednesday Cruz slammed the media saying it was trying to create a fight between Carson and himself.

Cruz said his team was simply passing along a story that CNN reported that Carson was going home to Florida. That story was true. Carson was going home to get "clean clothes" not to end his run for president.

"There is a reason why the media is chattering about this. Because the media wants to stir up a fight between Ben Carson and me. I love Ben. I'm not interested in criticizing him," Cruz said to anchor Brooke Baldwin.

After the interview, Baldwin said Cruz's comments were inaccurate.

She went on to say, "I'm going to call out B.S. when I hear B.S. and that was B.S."
