Democrats lining up behind Neuhardt for party chair

Jack Torry in our Washington Bureau is reporting that some local Democrats and others around the state are lining up behind the effort to make Yellow Springs attorney and 2014 lt. governor candidate Sharen Neuhardt the next chair of the Ohio Democratic Party. Here's Jack's report:

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley and Mark Owens, chairman of the Montgomery County Democratic Party, are heading up a 14-member team of Democrats trying to help former lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Sharen Neuhardt become the next chairwoman of the Ohio Democratic Party.

In what has become a spirited race to replace Chris Redfern, Whaley and Owens will try and line up the votes Neuhardt needs on the Democratric state executive committee to become party chairwoman.

Others helping Neuhardt are Jocelyn Bucaro, who chairs the Butler County Democratic Party, and Gen Murphy of Dayton, president of Ohio Young Democrats.

In addition, Neuhardt has the backing of former state Rep. Pete Crossland of Akron; Stow Mayor Sara Drew; Newark City Councilman Marc Guthrie; Anthony Giardini of the Lorain County Democratic Party, and Ed Helvey, chairman of the Delaware County Democratic Party.
